Northallerton has a lot to offer, but it needs to sell itself better …

Out-of-town retail parks and the internet are taking their toll on high streets across the country. Customers are also increasingly discerning about how they use their leisure time. Northallerton could turn the tide and improve what it has on offer – to make everyone’s visit a high-quality experience and to make the town a place where residents and visitors alike want to spend more time … whether it’s to shop, eat, drink or holiday.

We have the ingredients that many towns aspire to, such as high quality independent businesses alongside a good selection of national high street names, and traditional architecture with high quality buildings. What the town lacks is an organisation with the resources to ‘sell’ the ingredients that make up this outstanding offer to a wider range of customers.

On the 18th November 2016, it was announced that the ballot for Northallerton to form a Business Improvement District was successful. Led by Northallerton Retail Business Forum, key local businesses proposed the BID and polled businesses for improvements they would like to see in the town. Many towns and cities are adopting this model to help improve their fortunes.
